NORTH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL CHOIRS

A Rich Tradition of Excellence

OUR PROGRAM

The North Central High School Choirs program offers 10 unique choir options ranging from nationally ranked competitive show choirs to a state champion vocal jazz ensemble to an African-American tradition gospel choir. Intermediate students can hone their skills in treble and bass univoice groups that compete on a limited schedule. New choir students and those looking to build music skills without the additional layers of competing or choreography can choose from a trio of non-competitive options. North Central also offers an inclusive choir providing special needs students access to the performing arts and interaction with our choir students. Finally, student musicians and technical assistants can join the program as part of the Show Band and Tech Crew during competitive season.

The 300+ students who participate in NC Choirs have the option to take choir for honors credit, pursue college credit via our AP Music Theory course, or advance their individual skills with private lessons at North Central’s Vocal Arts Academy. Our student population spans all grades and includes students training to pursue performing arts in college, honors students pursuing the International Baccalaureate diploma, varsity athletes, and members of North Central’s orchestra, dance team, cheerleading squad, reparatory theatre, and many other groups.

EVENTS

The North Central Choirs program calls the 1,266-seat Birge Auditorium home for many of their public performances. Our events include a season-opening camp show featuring the Half Notes campers, free show choir and concert choir preview nights, the all-performing-arts Messiah concert, our More Joyful Sounds of the Season holiday spectacular, and our season-ending Evening with Counterpoints, Descants, & KC Jazz show. Our events offer us a chance to showcase our work to the community and raise money to cover our yearly expenses.

DONORS AND SPONSORS

Donations and sponsorships account for nearly 10% of North Central Choirs’ annual budget. The support of our community helps us make sure no student is denied an opportunity to be part of the choir program that best fits their needs and talents. In turn, we offer our public gratitude to sponsors and donors at events and in publications as well as by offering complimentary tickets to events and early access to our top fundraising events.

OUR COMMUNITY

North Central Choirs is more than just the directors and students. Our community of alumni, current and past parents, community supporters, and NC staff members helps keep the program running year in and out. Our parent volunteers help get the choirs to and from events, keep costumes in shape, and organize our fundraising events. Our alumni includes local leaders, parents and grandparents of second- and third-generation NC Choirs performers, award-nominated professional performers from stage and screen, and recent grads pursuing degrees in business, education, engineering, health sciences, performing arts, and many other disciplines.
