The Student Band Behind Our Competitive Choirs

North Central’s Show Band offers the opportunity for our school’s band and orchestra students to be part of the Show Choir experience. The 13-piece Show Band backs our advanced competitive choirs at all competitions and performances. Led once again by Tenéh Karimu, players from North Central’s award winning bands program back the choirs on trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass, drums, percussion, and keyboard. Tenéh also leads the three-piece pro jazz combo that backs KC Jazz.

The Show Band rakes in honors and awards at a similar rate as the choirs they back. The combo won Best Band honors at the Southmont Show Choir Invitational in 2026 at the Lafayette Jefferson Xtreme Show Choir Showdown in 2025 and 2026, the Marysville (OH) Showcase in 2024, Pike MusicFest in 2024, and the Avon Vocal Invitational in 2023.

Members of the Show Band are also achievers in the classroom who carry on their passions in their college careers. Two members of the 2026 Show Band went on to study at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University while others pursued degrees in Equine Studies, Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Sports Management, Biology, and Japanese Language.
