Keeping Our Choirs On Time and Looking Good

A show choir is nothing without a crew that makes sure all the gear gets to the competition, gets on stage, works properly, and gets back to school in the span of less than 36 hours. North Central’s choir program is proud to have the best student stage Tech Crew and parent-led Truck Crew to make it all work.

North Central’s student Tech Crew takes the lead on day-of-show operations. The crew is responsible for getting costumes and props to the stage and making mid-performance adjustments to the set. The crew also assists with North Central’s video backdrop and with setup for the Show Band. The work finds crew members doing everything from moving a giant white throne across stage mid-set to wheeling out a laundry cart that strategically disguises a show-stopping break dancer. Their work won them Best Crew honors at the Pike MusicFest in 2023 and 2025.

Like their performing peers, Tech Crew members typically move on to impressive post-graduate opportunities. Senior members of the 2026 Tech Crew are currently studying at Loyola University – Chicago, Butler University, and Purdue University.

The Truck Parents take the lead on getting everything up to four show choirs need to get to a contest and back in a day. This crew loads trucks and transports all costumes, video backdrop arrays, musical equipment, props, and other gear to the competition site on the Friday night before the competition. The parents serve as on-site troubleshooters for any day-of-contest mishaps before loading all the gear and returning it to North Central, sometimes well after midnight.
