North Central Choirs offers a selection of non-competitive choir options for students interested in developing basic music skills and to provide opportunity for all interested students to participate in performing arts.
While Allegros and Encores are two different groups, the pair typically combines for performances. Allegros is open to freshmen interested in building skills in vocal performance and basic choreography. Encores provides similar training for students up to 12th grade. Daria Weingartner serves as the director for both groups.
Both groups enable members to develop basic skills of proper tone production, diction, technique and intonation, including breath control, good posture, and singing music in two to three parts (with and without accompaniment); develop basic skills in music reading; demonstrate stage movement, blocking, or choreography appropriate to the music studied; and display well-developed solo and ensemble skills in singing selections from a variety of historical and cultural genres.
Allegros/Encores perform at the North Central Choirs Fall Concert in September, select performances of More Joyful Sounds of the Season in December, Midwinter Concert during school hours in February, and the Spring Concert in May. Members may also participate in the ISSMA district solo & ensemble contest in January.
Rondos focuses on building vocal skills for male and female students as North Central’s introductory mixed choir. Elizabeth Morrison directs the group.
Rondos provides students with learning opportunities that enable them to develop skills of proper tone production, diction, technique and intonation; develop skills in music reading; and display solo and ensemble skills in singing repertoire from a variety of historical and cultural genres.

North Central’s Ambassadors is a peer facilitated musical ensemble/general music class where students work together to further their musicianship, interpersonal skills, and vocal technique by singing popular music. They also further their kinesthetic skills through exploring basic musical instruments. Elizabeth Morrison directs the group with the assistance of select helpers from other North Central choirs.
The Ambassadors Choir strives to provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for students with varying abilities to develop positive social skills and to increase and foster positive peer relationships between our students in general education and those who receive special services.
Ambassadors performs at the Friday night performance of More Joyful Sounds of the Season in December and at in-school “Informance” events in September, February, and May.
