North Central Choirs 2027 Competition Season
North Central’s advanced and intermediate competitive choirs – Counterpoints, Descants, Accents, Varsity Singers, and KC Jazz – participate in local show choir competitions as well as Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) sanctioned events in the winter and spring.
You can typically catch our show choirs visiting area schools hosting competitions on most Saturdays in February and March. The advanced groups also strive to schedule one overnight trip per season with a visit to Show Choir Nationals in Nashville, TN on the calendar every three years (next visit in 2029). As the show choirs kick off their season, KC Jazz starts the path toward another ISSMA championship in the Vocal Jazz contest. Show choir turns to concert choir in the spring as groups strive for ISSMA gold and state champion designations.
Competitions offer our choirs a goal to strive for during the season as they work to refine and improve their competition set. Feedback from experienced show choir clinicians judging contests helps the directors and performers adjust and improve their performances. Competitions also connect North Central’s long-running choir program with the vibrant show choir culture found in Indiana and other states. Getting the opportunity to see what our show choir peers are doing and connecting with friends and colleagues in other groups is one of the best rewards of the season. Finally, competitions give our parents and other supporters a chance to show their school spirit as they cheer on their choirs the way a sports fan cheers on their team.
